I'm not in Berlin at the moment. It's been about 9 months but I'm just sharing these pictures with you today! In August my friend Joke and I decided to go on a little Eurotrip to Berlin and Copenhagen. We stayed over a week in Berlin, we just loved it and I even said the 'I could definitely live here'. So who knows, maybe for some future moving plans.
The first days of our Berlin adventure, we stayed in the beautiful apartment of one of Joke's colleagues from Belgium. We had the great idea to rent some bicycles and just bike around in the city. Geert (Joke's colleague) showed us around those first days. He showed us some well hidden spots and taught us some Berlin history. After that we moved to the lovely apartment of Anela, a girl we met on the Cough Surfing website (which I'd like to recommend by the way). We had a great time staying there, she showed us some very nice bars and had a great tapas dinner together.
Unfortunately not everything went like I hoped it would go. The first day, after talking about wasps and allergic reactions, I actually got stung by a wasp and I spent the rest of the week with an arm twice the size of the other one... Oops. Lots of itching, waiting in the hospital and pills (that made me want to sleep all day) later, it kind of disappeared but that was the reason that we had to miss out on the great Berlin parties... I guess that's for next time. But of course, we still had a great time. Discovering the amazing little bars, restaurants, (flee) markets and enjoying the great summer weather. We bicycled all day, at the old airport, just across the city, ... You've never seen 2 girls on holidays working out this much I think ;-) and then, of course, we had a good reason to spoil ourselves with lattes, apfelstrudel and cocktails. We were also meeting one of Joke's friends there that moved there a couple of months before. It was just lovely.
What I like so much about Berlin is that the city is not clean. Not that it's dirty but it's just arty. There are so many hidden spaces, awesome street art, original cafes, vintage shops, urban gardens, flee markets,... It's just unbelievable. On top of that, the city is incredibly interesting with all the history that comes with it. I didn't know where to look first, or even where to go first. It's so unique and beautiful and it has the best atmosphere. That's probably why I took about 1 million pictures with the new lens I got for my birthday! So here we go, I made a small selection for you:
For those who noticed. The other day, we met male Joke. (See pictures above) Can't believe these two aren't really related...
